Vilanculos, Mozambique
Awoke to the birds & soft rustle of coconut palm leaves. After emails, organizing our bbq for tonight & chatting to manager about Zimbabwe & the roads we set off on our exercise walk along the beach accompanied by the resort dogs. Well kept, inoculated animals too which is great. I smiled when commenting on dogs & resorts I was informed that they are working dogs, their jobs are to bark at intruders at night which in turn wakes up the night watchman. Perfect !!!!
The sand is squeaky white, & the sea very shallow with sandbanks right off our resort. The water is tropical blue & warm and the beach very flat so we strode along ... The locals must have thought we were nuts. We walked back on the road to suss other accommodation in the area and walked past the neatest & tidiest compound/allotment. This family had a borehole guarded by thorn bushes, an immaculate veggie garden, chickens and the sand was carefully raked. R's breezy hello got us invited in to inspect and meet the toddler having morning tea on a mat alongside a children's picture book. Wow!!
An afternoon seabreeze always comes up & it's quite chilly from 3pm onwards. Chatted to the local dive shop about what's on offer then stood aside as our bbq was delivered by truck & set up.
Darkness falls like a blanket so by 5.30 it's gin time. We had a brisk walk around the compound then enjoyed the full moon's silvery path over the ocean. It's difficult to capture this on a photo and words are not much better.
A great bbq & lulled to sleep by the gentle waves of high tide.
