Day 2 in Rotorua started with a desperate attempt to hire a car. We were one click away from reserving one last night when the Internet in the room ran out and we were unable to reserve this morning for the same day.
So we walked into town and wandered around until we found the Europcar depot and actually got a much better deal than we would have online
With our new found freedom, we drove to Whakarewarewa - a living Maori village that shows around tourists to generate some income. Highlights were seeing the Haka performed and seeing the eruption of a large geyser.
After that, we drove to the other side of town and went up yet another cable car to the top of the hill. From the top we made 5 luge trips down to the halfway point followed by a trip on the world's slowest cable car to get back to the top. At least the leisurely ride afforded ample opportunity to see the rabbits bounding on the hillside below.
Another drive into the centre of town later, we were seated in the open air at a restaurant in a street that was closed for a charity event. Nice food with a free band.
On our return to the motel we took a dip in the 24-hour freshwater (too cold at 34 degrees) and thermal pools (just right at 41 degrees). If only every day could end like this!
