We had to be up very early today to drive 20 minutes to Maaleala Harbour and check in by 8am for our boat trip with the Pacific Whale Foundation.
As we left the harbour, the captain told us that we were unable to go to Molokini as planned due to adverse weather and we'd be making two snorkelling stops in Lanai'i instead. After the Great Barrier Reef, the snorkelling was unimpressive, but we did get to see lots of humpback whales and spinner dolphins during the day. The humpback whales would characteristically appear at the surface, blow out their blowhole and then dive for the depths, waving their fluke (tail fin) as they went. The spinner dolphins get their name from the way they jump out of the water and spin in mid-air, which they did for us many times - better than Sea World!
After returning to the hotel and getting changed, we grabbed a quick bite to eat at Thai Chef and then went to Warren and Anabelle's magic show. The pre-show consisted of a "ghost" playing a piano while a nasal New Yorker sang and "entertained" the audience. Still, at least Dean could get a few ice cream cocktails.
The magic show was much better - an intimate sleight of hand show with only 6 rows of seats and we were on the 1st row The magicians were waiting to greet everyone on their way out and sell their DVDs, or so we thought. However, after we had gone by we looked back as they were accepting tips from the couple behind us - only in America!
