Well the 24th was the day of the much anticipated ASK Now Scavenger Hunt!! ASK Now are the recruiting agency that got me the job so there was another 60 english teachers attending the event so ive been looking forward to it since I arrived! We met at Hanganjin subway stop in seoul at 3pm and got speaking to some really lovely people. We then got split into teams of 5 or 6. My team was team 3 and were lucky enough to have 2 Canadian/koreans so they could speak fluent korean and find their way about easily! I had no clue where we were supposed to go! The other 3 were Gerard from Canada, Navi from India (not a teacher- an engineer) and Sean a New Yorker. So we were given 3 sheets of paper with lists of tasks, places to go, things to find and each had a certain amount of points. We were given 5 hours to get as many as we could so you can imagine how many things we had to try to do all over Seoul which is huge!! So we hopped on the subway and started to work our way through the sheets, obviously going for the big pointer tasks first. One task was to get a team picture taken with a korean kid on someones shoulders! So we had to convince this poor mother at the supermarket to let us put her kid on Gerards shoulders...the mother thought it was hilarious....not sure the kid would agree! I think I can safely say the poor boy is scarred for life and looked absolutely terrified! Aww! Whilst at the supermarket we managed to complete another task get a team pic of us holding a watermelon over our heads so we spotted a guy who had just bought one and pounced! Again we were lucky he thought it was hilarious! Next we made our way to the nearest baseball batting cage (you know like you get at amusement arcades!!) where we had to convince the owner to sell us one of the balls. He wasnt up for it all at first but the koreans eventually talked him into it! We got a text from Jason the organiser saying that if we made it to the only Hooters in Seoul by 4pm then we woud get 100 bonus points and another 25 points if we could get a team pic with one of the hooters girls...Luckily we were pretty close so we bagged the points! Other tasks included getting plastic bags from various shops like E-mart, 7/11, GS mart etc and taking team pics outside places to prove we had been there like find the Body Shop in Itaewon etc. One of the funniest task was another text from Jason saying we had to get to a certain Norae Bang (karaoke place) for 100 bonus points + whatever score we managed to get on the karaoke- we scored 90points after singing Stevie Wonder Isnt she lovely and we threw in some fancy footwork to chance our luck for more points haha! None were given!
After all the crazy running around we were instructed to meet at the finish point- The Wolfhound irish bar in Itaewon at 8pm, 5 points were deducted for every minute you were late so it was sunny to see different teams come flyin off the subway and hurtle towards the bar hahaha! We came 3rd after all the points were counted! The winners got all the entry money which was 10,000 won each so a good 600,000 Won (£300) was theres to spend at the bar!
LET THE DRINKING COMMENCE! :-) ofcourse being the only Scot there I got roped into having lots of shots coz apparently thats what Scots do! Far too much tequila and sambuca! Well and truly bladdered! Headed to a club after and met up with some irish ppl I know and met Jess and Krista for a wee boogie! Got home at 8am! quality night! And had a well deserved hangover on the sunday eeeeeek!
