Before we left Gyeongi we visited Anapji which was a natural garden that used to be the location of many banquets for the king, now there are only 3 of these buildings left and the large pond. Again I was totally amazed at the size of the fish in the pond!! possibly bigger than the ones I seen at Gyanggosan! We had a walk about around the huge pond.....more like a lake!! It has 3 islands. There were so many school group there, in particular one group of kindergarten children (so tiny!!!) who surrounded me when I went to the restroom hahahah! Bloody bursting too but couldnt move for little bodies shouting hello at me! Once I escaped we sat and chilled out in the shade for a while as we looked over the pond....absolutely roasting!! Later found out when we got back to the car in the afternoon that it was 36C! And I was pretty covered up as you will see from my pics! At lunch time we had a wee picnic, the amount of food again was unbelievable! A huge pot of cold rice was produced, bags and bags of crispy seaweed for kimbap, boiled eggs, sandwiches, ham, crips and ofcourse Kimchi! Man they can eat!!
After lunch we headed back to the car for the 2 hour journey back up north to Andong. We went to the Hahoe Mask Museum which was exactly as it said on the tin! Pretty cool though! There was also a little building dedicated to The Queen as she had visited the village last spring, it was filled with pictures of her at all the different events blah blah blah! We then started to walk through Hahoe Folk Village which gives you a chance to see what korea looked like before all the skyscrapers. The residents have preserved the traditions passed down through the generations, although they now obviously have electricity and telephones and I noticed some even have cable TV. They're only human eh! I was pretty much blown away, the place is amazing! The vilage is surrounded by mountains, so the sights are pretty awesome, got some crackin pics! Another interesting thing I noticed was all the wealthy looking houses were in the centre of the village and the poor houses were mostly on the edge of the village. Outside the poor houses people had little stalls selling souveniers, carved statues and masks, etc..Eventually we reached the Nakdong river which had a white sand beach on either side, wayhey!!! Never seen that before! It was beautiful, there was a huge cliff facing you and greenery everywhere. it was so peaceful too! Apparently we were pretty lucky to see it on a weekday because at the weekend it is overrun with tourists and it loses its charm a little! We chilled out on the beach for a bit to let the kids let off a bit of steam. Now about 5pm and still about 32C! ahh! quite wierd tho still never ever felt like I was burning or getting too much sun, so still as blue as ever!!
After a while we started to walk back in to the village for dinner....I thought we were going to an actual restaurant but no we went to an old couple house! These people were just residents of the village and they offer their services to tourists. They even had little menu's! It was obviously a poor house, with straw roofs and just shutters for windows. It was open in the middle, like a small courtyard which had the garden hose and basin where the kids had a good scrub before dinner! We sat in one of the open plan rooms for dinner , they served us the usual different types of kimchi then we had bone chicken and noodles and veg in a soy like sauce....absolutely delicious!! Easily one of the nicest meals Ive had here! After the chicken was finshed they brought out the rice then the rice was mixed with the remaining sauce YUM!!
