Dahab - 10 April
Day 13
We travelled from Cairo, under the suez canal and into the Sinnai peninsula.
We were somewhat in a convoy from the first check point with many other trucks around us.
Sinnai peninsula is on the Australian governments website as a 'Do not travel' zone after incidents of kidnapping.
Well worst case scenario we might get to be on an episode of 'Banged up Abroad'!
Around us the land is mountainous and desert conditions but when we see water it is stunning in contrast, a beautiful cerulean blue.
We stop at many check points where the police and soldiers stare at us and take sneaky photos where they can!
We left at 5.30am and finally arrive about 4.30pm to the Dyarna Hotel.
The porters bring our bags over to work out what needs to go to which room - I dive on mine finally realising where the underwear I left to dry last night had gone to!
Bleary eyed this morning I must have totally over looked the fact that the grey g string I left hanging off a strap on my bag was still there!
The porter is trying to shoo me away saying, no problem Ill carry and I'm trying to discretely remove my underwear which is secured in by the strap without drawing attention!
It was terribly funny to think that my g string was probably waving like a flag as the bags were on top of the bus as we transitted through the whatSinnai peninsula!!! And to think of all who handled my bag - the porters at the hotel in Cairo, then the driver putting the bags on top of the bus, then the porters in Dahab!!!
We booked in for massages at the hotel and enjoyed that and the included sauna and jacuzzi. We had not realised how sore our thighs and calves had become from climbing in pyramids and temples until they were massaged!
For dinner we went to Ali baba. All the restaurants along the water were beautiful and westernised. Touts calling out for our business.
After we went shopping at shops that were also more westernised. We spent a lot of time with Hazzam at Zoom - having tea, taking photos, bartering for my camel light, genie lamps, a handbag and ear rings. We finally left about an hour later at midnight!
Day 14
After breakfast we went to kit up with a wetsuit, snorkel and flippers for our snorkel at the Blue Hole.
We walked in straight from the beach and the coral came straight to the shore, a few metres in the coral drops into what is known as the blue hole. It was stunning and nothing ive seen before. The coral was blue, purple, yellow and many pretty gold fish, parrot fish etc.
We left straight after getting back for the ferry to take us to Jordan.
We sadly farewelled our Egyptian tour guide Mohammed and waited for 3.5 hours in the very grubby and basic terminal as the boat was late. An official looking guy who that we saw Mohammed tip, kept us up to date on our departure and ensured we got on the bus to take us to the boat as we were leaving he motions me to the side and says, 'I wanted to tell you you're a very beautiful girl! Are you married? '
I say no and he makes the shocked look ... I feel like Im back in south America again and struggle to get my swelled head through the doorway of the bus!
All the men on the boat stare at us and some try to take sneaky photos . Its very unnerving and im thankful Susie and I are in a tour group.
We encountered the most disgusting toilets of our trip - filled to just under the rip with urine and faeces and not flushing. We're stuck on a boat though so what do you do?! I even watched a local women looking at them in horror as she tried each stall trying to find a decent one!
We arrived after 3.5 hours, thankful to be off the boat and on dry land!
