Cairo again - 9 April
Day 12
Both Susie and I woke up quite tired with all the late nights and early starts catching up with us. Susie had been in a lot of pain the previous evening with her first night sleeping on her bruises after the 'donkey incident'!
We went down to meet the group and to find out if it was safe to go to the museum which was a block from Tahir Square ... since Friday we'd seen a lot of scenes on tv of the protests in Cairo ... mostly it just looked like people hanging out and rubber necking!
Fortunately it was and we caught a taxi there with Erin & Guliano (our cute new secret couple Tom & Nidhi wanted to catch the train!).
We barted for a guide - 120 pound 4 ppl 2 hours and he showed us the contents they'd extracted from the tomb, of which the best was Tutankahmens. We also saw the mummies but only half of them as missed a whole room! We seem to do that a lot?!
We then caught a cab to Khan El Kalili where we found a cute local looking coffee shop for lunch & turkish coffee.
That afternoon I went to the bazaar near our hotel with Erin (also titled Khan El Kalili).
I brought oil (Jasmine, a copy of romance, and mint), an A3 size papyrus and he threw in 2 glass perfume jars for paying 350 pounds in cash.
We walked back the long way getting lost in the streets and ending up in a local food market. A store there with pigeons, bunnies, geese ended up being a fresh butcher as noticed a man out the back working on a freshly plucked goose!
Another cold shower, too cold too wash my hair - still thinking sand is like the Arab version of dry shampoo :-)
Dinner was at Abu El Sid which was also very rustic and beautiful. Im getting many ideas for my home makeover!!! I had circasian chicken with a cashew gravy and we shared a bottle of rose - very nice evening and a nice change of menu as I'm getting very tired of felafel, kebab meat, hummus (which tastes strongly of tahini), flat bread and cucumber & tomato!!!
Day 13
We depart at 5.30am for Dahab and the Sinnai peninsula.
