Today started the European continent leg of our holiday. We spent a great day in Edinburgh yesterday and this morning saw us winging across the channel to Paris. First impressions? Well not good to be honest. We learnt a quick lesson on an unofficial taxi queue...... don't use them. It all began with trying to get out of Charles de Gualle Airport. Having an EU passport was about the easy part. Once you navigated to the correct immigration line, the next feat was to get out which in the end was quite expensive in comparison to London. We decided to get off the RER at Gare du Norde. Now this seemed like a good idea and at first it was. We were both learning a little French looking for the exit signs and at last we emerged to the bright sun. Our mistake next was to look for a taxi. You may well think how could that be a mistake but let me tell you, it can. lesson is don't go to one of those unofficial taxi ranks as these guys can be very pushy and forceful. We were lucky to get a good parisian taxi driver though who looked after us. We ate booked into a B&B called the Au Sourire de Montmarte in Montmartre. Well apart from being on the next to top level and me being the one to have to carry both bags up the whole way, this place is excellent. Heidi have spent the rest of our day enjoying the Paris sunshine (29 today) doing a bit of parisian watching while enjoying several very tasty beverages. As you would expect the wine here is divine and the produce so very fresh.
