Shaun on the Road
Hey all. I am just about ready to leave Vienna, on my way to the mountains. The town is called Bad Gastein. This is a German name (obviously) and I have no idea how to pronounce it. German is a crazy language, especially after hearing spanish and, more recently Italian.
IÂLll pick up where I left off in Florence. I spent a couple of days in Florence and the area, including Cinque Terre, which are five little villages on the Med. Coast, and Pisa. The answer is yes, the tower does lean. In Pisa, true to my form, I got lost and had to walk for an hour or more to get to the train station, instead of the normal 20 minutes.
Left Florence in the morning and, after a train mixup, I got into Venice. An extremely unique city. Countless islands, bridges, amazing buildings, and tourists. DidnÂLt stay ther all that long, though. That night I took the night train, which was really nice, but kinda scarry. I met a Canadian in Rome who was gassed in his sleep on a night train. The crooks stole 400 Euros from him! Nothing was out of the ordinary with me, however, and I got into Vienna on time.
Vienna is a nice city, but a little too romantic for a guy traveling by himself. Certainly a different flavour than Italy. Much more cut and dried. More orderly and less flowery That is a pretty awful comparison, but it is the only way to describe it. You just have to come here to see the difference. Keep on writing and take care.
