Spent 3 nights in Kyoto, which is a very interesting place but my least favourite so far. The main attraction of the city is the temples, which I think there are about 170 off. When I finally found my hostel, the city is huge so I had to get a bus than spent about an hour and half looking for the hostel, I dropped my bag off and went to the world heritage temple complex. It's the first UNESCO heritage site I've been too and was a but disappointed. It was definitely the largest and most impressive complex I've been too so far but it was so unbelievable crowed that it just kinda ruined it for me. And half the temples were under construction, I thought they would have been finished 100 of years ago?, and everything there was so commercialised, it was actually worse than Disney. You could buy a charm for more or less anything. If you want help with traffic safety, academics, safety against natural disasters or safety on trains get your charm at Kyoto. The temples were really impressive though.
On my second day I spent some time exploring the temples and park near my hostel, not really much off interest to report there. The park was a state, but the main thing there is the cherry blossoms and the trees were bear.
Today I went to the downtown Kyoto district and the geisha district there. It was the first bit of time I've spent in the arcades and the are so much better than Margate. Played some blazblue and pachinko again. Got a new book as well from the seven story book store, and the book was actually a lot cheaper than in new Zealand. Then I went to the station to sort out my train tickets for Osaka but stopped of at the temple of 1001 statues, was so cool and my favourite temple so far. The clue of the temples attraction is in the name ;) . One huge Buddha statue was in the middle surrounded by 500 smaller statues on either side. With several wooden statues of Buddhist deities at the front.
The food here hasn't been nothing to write home about, did have a bowl of chicken and rice, which would have been nice, but it had a raw egg in it. Rancid.
