I've now been in china for 5 days, although I've not really done any of the major attractions cause I meeting Hannah here, today :). I spent my first few nights at the happy dragon hostel, cost me £4 a night and was better than a lot of the other places I've stayed at. The hostel was in the dongcheng area near the forbidden city. So far I've had my biggest culture shock here. One of the main things thats surprised me is how poor the majority of the people are even in Beijing. But their lack of money means cheap mcdonalds for me. I did try the KFC once but the chicken was brown so I'm going to give that a miss in China now. The one proper Chinese restaurant I've been in so far was interesting, some nice dishes of geese intestines and pigs feet among other oddnesses. Chinese street snacks are very good, so far I've only had fish bits on sticks and for 20p they are tasty, although I don't really want to think about what fish bits they are. Some of the street snacks are more exotic/ rancid such as scorpion, slug, tarantula, snake, whole baby birds an some other weird s*** that I've probably forgotten. You can also by old boiled eggs that have gone a bit black but I'm definitely not brave enough to try that. Singapore was good as it has gotten me used to rude people of which there are a lot of in china. I don't think any of them have ever heard of a queue in their lives. You be standing in line all day because of the people pushing in front. On one day I got stopped by a Chinese guy trying to get me to go to his art gallery down a side alley and by two tuk tuk drivers. No matter how many times you say no they will not stop following you, one even cut me off as I tried to cross the road, and it took about 5 min to get rid of each one.
I am just about to meet Hannah at the airport and come back to the 5 star hotel I'm now staying at. The staff bring around deserts every night with a weather report for the next day, there's a free mini bar and you can watch tv in the shower. I will now be doing all the main sites now Hannah's here and I cannot wait to see her.
It's extremely hard to get on Facebook due to the fact it's banned, along with YouTube and apparently twitter to. Probably the only photos that I will be able to upload while I'm in china are ones on to this off exploring site.
