After a frustrating day yesterday after only travelling 40km as Guus' bike again was breaking down every few kilometers we got to a random village it didn't even come up on Google Maps! We were at a garage trying to find a hotel or anywhere to stay around the area and a woman in a small shop spoke remote English but pointed out a hotel just round the corner literally could throw a stone at it so we stayed there for the night and said to leave early in the morning to make up some miles. Bas had a problem with his bike as well so once all bikes were fixed we went to get some food noodle soup and chicken and then went back to the hotel. Facetimed Dani which was good haven't spoke to her since was in Bangkok and will talk to mother tomorrow and also finally Lauren which was really good to talk to her haven't spoke to her apart from messaging since before I left. So today we woke up at 6.15am got showered and packed and hit the road. Weather was good, first few hours we were making a good progress hitting around 140km by midday. Stopped off for something to eat and drink then hit the road again..... Then Guus' bike broke down! Chain again that was the 3rd time. Was in a garage and they said it would be done by 4pm completely ruining our chances to get to Phong Nha national park which was a further 200km away we could have done it but got there late as we left so early and the roads we were flying through. A shop round the corner we got some food and water and the 2 locals were very friendly with us, invited us behind the shop into the house for some warm tea and some food. A chicken head was bobbing up in the water which put me off completely ha! Chicken feet as well had that in Hanoi but a chicken head I dunno if could do that! With that, a bottle of rice wine came out and we must of done about 5 shots each. Rice wine is a killer we all felt tipsy with the stuff so were like look, we have to drive in a few hours! Then, we were asking one of the guys how they all knew each other and he said how his mum and dad were there and this was their shop and he has a fitness shop in Hanoi where he had cameras everywhere and on his iPad he could see what everyone was doing. Big Brother no end! Then he said the other 2 guys there were the regional police?! We started joking how they would put handcuffs on us and throw us into jail and we couldn't believe we were drinking with the police from the area. They found us hilarious always laughing and one of the guys translated how they were 'rejoiced' with us?! They were smashing the rice wine back and finished a bottle before cracking open another one and then they got a call out?! We felt funny after about 5 shots they must have had around 15-20 shots it was relentless so they then got on their bikes and went to the scene! Apparently the law isn't very strict around here unless obviously drugs or a serious offence is why they have been called out. The bike got fixed around half 3 so we then set off still hoping to cover decent miles. Got to a small village with hotels and shortly after Guus' bike broke down AGAIN! This was doing all our heads in! So we stopped off in a Honda garage in the village which was pretty big for where it was in the middle of nowhere and they had a hotel next to the garage so we stayed there for the night. Guus' bike would get fixed at half 6 in the morning first thing so we went out for dinner noodle soup again, shock. No wonder all the Vietnamese are so thin that's all they eat. Walked past what looked like a wedding reception the speakers were banging with heavy dance music I don't know how anyone on the tables inside the tented area could hear each other think let alone talk and then just went back to the hostel and all got a massage which was eventful ha! Praying for a better day tomorrow we are meant to meet Laura in Hoi An on the 2nd and we are not even close to Phong Nha! God damn bikes! :(
