Hola chicos
Spent the last few days wandering the streets of Panama City. Very modern with a heavy American influence (of course).
Yesterday we spent a few hours watching the famous Panama canal in action. Its surprising how busy the canal is, generating over 500 million USD each year. The boats pay on a weight basis and yesterday the highest paying vessel, paid 206,000USD to pass through the canal. We were more interested than we thought actually and ended up watching 4 boats pass through the Mirraflores Locks, all of which had entered from the Carribean side earlier in the day and were passing the final locks to allow entry to the Pacific Ocean.
We also spent half a day wandering around Casco Antiguo (the old town), with its many dilapidated buildings and views along both sides of the City waterfront.
This afternoon we are flying to the northeast of Panam to an area called Bocas del Toro for some more beach action.
More soon.
Love Shane and Sarah.
