Hola We write this postcard from La Paz, but it is all about a town (and area) called Rurrenabaque. After an incredible flight from the altitude of La Paz, we reached the dusty, little jungle town Rurre and received a good dose of jungle heat! Rurre is the base for trips in to the jungle and an area called the Pampas, a marsh like area accessible only by the rivers and the home to an abundance of wild life. There were only four of us on the group - ourselves and 2 Irish lads, Vinny and Mike. So we set off on a very bumpy 3 hour drive to reach the river. On the way, our eagle eyed guide manged to spot a Sloth! Brilliant, as they are very rare and very hard to find. No idea how it he saw it! We finally reached the river, loaded our gear in to the boat and set off up stream. Along the entire way (2 or so hours) until our camp we saw tons of alligators, capivaras (a huge animal that looks like a cross between a hippo and guinea pig), all sorts of birds, jumping fish, pink dolphins, monkeys (howlers and spider), lots of different birds and turtles. Straight out of a wildlife documentary - alligators submerging under the boat, monkeys screaming at our arrival, turtles panicking and jumping in to the water and the capivaras just watching us. Incredible! After a relaxing afternoon we watched the sunset and rose early the next morning to walk through the Pampas in search of an anaconda. What heat! After a few minutes we were all dripping with sweat and sucking back water! Anyway, after two hours of searching we split up and then one of the guides finally found a baby (2 year) anaconda. Good timing, because I don?t think we could have kept searching much longer in that heat. After a siesta back at the camp, we went fishing for piranhas, where Sarah proved to be a dab hand! These piranhas made up part of our dinner that night. The next morning we took a paddle down the river and just listened to the wildlife. Great experience, listening to all the birds and monkeys! Then after watching sunrise over the Pampas, we returned to camp and set off back to Rurre, where we spent the night having a few drinks with Vinny and Mike. All and all, an amazing experience! Tomorrow we undertake the Death Road challenge - cycling down the Worlds Most Dangerous Road. Wish us luck! Shane and Sarah
