Shane and Sarah's Adventures
Hola All,
Well we left San Pedro (Chile) on a 12 hour bus ride over the Andes climbing to altitudes of around 4500m! They say it can take its toll and cause headaches and nausea and for one poor girl thats exactly what happened...she had to be administed oxygen.....and we all enjoyed the sounds of her throwing up. Anyway the scenery on top was fantastic as you can see from the photos so made a great bus ride.
We arrived in Salta after midnight and the next two days were spent wandering around taking in the sites (Salta has some amazing colonial architecture and beautiful churches combined with a great vibe) and enjoying the hot sunshine. Also tried some local dishes - humitas (corn/cheese wrapped in a corn leaf); tamales (meat/corn wrapped in a corn leaf); cazuelo de cabrito (goat stew) and cabonada (pumpkin/corn/goat stew), which were delicious.
On the 19th we made our way down to a pretty town called Cafayate which is about 200kms south of Salta. Here we have been enjoying the relaxed atomsphere of the town, some hot sunshine and spent both days cycling around the surrounding valley and sampling some great wine (Torrentes, Malbec, Syrah, Rosados) at the local vineyards.
Tomorrow we head North again to a town called Huamhuaca which is about 3 hours south of the Bolivian border. We are stopping there to enjoy the famed landscape (apparently amazing rock formations) and enjoy a few more days in our favourite country so far.....its going to be very hard to leave!
Will send another postcard soon....
All our love
Sarah and Shane xxx
