So we landed into Sydney Airport still not knowing what we were going to do to get around Oz , or where exactly we were going to go to! Luckily we managed to make it to our hostel very easily which left us just enough time to go for a little walk!! We took in Darling Harbour and headed down to the Quay, where we saw the Opera House, the Bridge and most importantly for Shane, The Quay Restaurant, the best in Australia!!! We could only read the menu wishfully and then move on!!!
The next day we set out to look into buying a car/camper to get us around the place...however after going into a few places it seemed to make more sense renting as we couldn't be sure how long it would take to sell a car after...so we went into a few places to check out prices and think about our options...only for us to come away having signed a deal to pick up a Wicked camper in the morning and to have as our own for the next 40 days!!!!
So to celebrate we took a stroll down the Domain and botanical gardens, ending up passing up close to the Opera House, before we headed back to the hostel to ask them if we could take a credit note on the night's accommodation we had booked!!
So we set off on our Wicked adventure the next day!! She's a bit different to the camper we had got used to in NZ...on the plus side the bedroom is a bit larger in this one...on the downside she came with less 'stuff'!! So we spent the first day picking up all the stuff we knew we would need....like the solar shower, inverter so we can charge all our electrical bits, bedding etc etc....makes you appreciate how much we did get in our first rental!!!
After that and with a few curious glances due to the 'artwork' on the sides we set off on our way! The first couple of days were just driving really, getting used to having a manual drive, realising that the solar shower heats up in about an hour (one plus side to the super strength sun here). We wanted to get down to the far end of the Great Ocean Road so that we could make our way towards Melbourne. The highlight of this drive really was seeing our first Kangaroos!!! Our second campsite was surrounded by them! And we also got to use a BBQ pit with real wood and have our own fire and smoky flavoured dinner...you can't beat it!!!
