Fox Glacier All Day Hike Today we all went to the Fox Glacier, the others opted to the helihike so i went to do the all day hike on my own...i met somebody in the hostel who was also doing it so at least i had a friend!! Started off at 9.30 where we had to get kitted up to go on the glacier. i got my boots, socks and gloves and then we headed off to the base of the glacier. At first we had a 1 1/2 walk through a rainforest to get onto the glacier which was quite difficult. millions of steps and lots of cliff edges holding onto chains and not looking down! Finally got onto the glacier and the view was amazing. We put on our crampons so we didn't slip and then started making our way through the ice! as there is no set route, our guide was making steps for us with his pick axe which was so cool to watch! We spent about 2 1/2 hours making our way up the glacier and then had a stop for lunch and pics. It was so cool to see ice caves, moulins and clear blue ice! we spent 2 hours making our way back down and even got to walk through a couple of crevasses which was quite scary! After the walk back through the rainforest, we got back to the hostel about 5 and truly knackered!!
