Arrived safely in Taupo and stopped off to look at the the Huka Falls which were absolutely amazing! We're in a really nice hostel with a Spa pool and a really cute cat! Lake Taupo is huge! Big enough to fit the whole of singapore and more in , it looks more like an ocean to be honest!! We decided to have an active day and take a trip to the Tongariro national park. We had great weather, was a bit chilly at 5 in the morning but warmed up later! We had to climb up "the Devil's staircase" which lived up to it's name and was evil! Sean arrived at the top long before I did!! Then he decided to climb mount Ngauruhoe (aka Mount Doom in Lord of the Rings) No chance of getting me to climb it! So i went on with a Phillippa and took a nice walk along the rest of the mountains and park. We waited in places in the hope of Sean catching us up and we even waited to catch the last bus instead of leaving without him, but he didn't turn up. So we were rather worried! :s Then on the bus we found out someone had fallen down Mt Ngauruhoe and that Sean had been very brave and rescued him! He was on the voilcano for about 5 hours! He did a makeshift job at patching him up and hiked back down the mountain! He had very deep cuts in his head and face aswell as a broken collar bone and injured knee, Sean then called search and rescue and within 10 mins a chopper was there and he was off to hospital!!! Im soo proud of him!!!! Unfortunately Sean didn't get a free ride in the chopper! But he did get lots of free beers and pizza later on at the hostel from me and the guys! We had to rest for the next few days too much exciment and exercise!! Had a rally nice time just checking out Taupo and the area! As it's a volcanic area there are loads of amazing craters and stuff so lots to keep us amused! It's getting very cold here as the snow is approaching!! Very brrr! So Taupo wa a very enventful place and all I can say is Well done Sean, and lucky you were a girl guide!! Only joking!!
