Sunday (4th)
Arrived Melbourne 8.30am local time. The 15 hour flight was OK, however on passing through passport control Clare's passport set off an alarm and was taken off by and official to be examined. Whilst waiting for her to return we were asked to sit outside the office. It seemed like an age to Clare who was nervously racking her brain for an idea of why she'd been stopped, all the events of her last visit to OZ were flashing through her head! Imagining all sorts of scenarios! The official appeared and profusely apologised, handed back the passport and said that she couldn't figure out why it had set the alarm off and welcomed us to Australia! We hot footed it to customs and managed to make up the lost time by declaring our scuba gear which meant that we got stamped and scooted through a side door and out!-Result.
Terry and Reg were waiting for us out side, Terry gave us a Welcome tour of the city on the way home pointing out all the area of interest and general suburban areas, (which we later became used to calling Terry tours). We arrived shortly in Parkdale and managed to escape any jet lag at all as the flight timings were perfect.
That afternoon we were introduced to the Terry's local RSL. There was a quiz on and we met all the locals. a few bevies later we were heartily welcomed.
