Spent a leisurely last morning in Venice. Our train not until 1.00 so no rushing. Breakfast beside the canal. Watching the world float past. The girls fed the pigeons with their breakfast rolls. A walk into the Jewish ghetto. Very interesting. Very quiet too. Away from the maddening crowds. Lots of Jewish religious things for sale, as well as jewellery. Enjoyed our stay, although would not rush back to Venice. Too busy, with just too many tourists. The shops sel...

Breakfast by the canal, watching the traffic (boats, that is). They provide a lovely breakfast and are eager to please. Them off to sight see. Very crowded, even at this time of year when it is shoulder season. Went for a long walk, getting lost in all the back streets. Eventually ended up at the Rialto and from there to the train station, which we are just around the corner from. Had a nice dinner in a restaurant on the opposite side of our hotel.

Said goodbye to Bellagio reluctantly. What a nice place. Took the ferry to Varenna (after some conflicting advice from the hotel staff about which boat to take). Train to Milano Centrale. Then Milano Centrale to Venezia. Luckily, one of the hotel staff had told me about a booking agent in Bellagio who booked and printed our train tickets the night before so we didn't have to line up and worry about tickets. Had a great sleep in. We have block out blinds on the outside of our windows which stopped any sun coming in and reduced, by some, the noise of musicians. Took the hydrofoil to Como. It takes only 45 mins as opposed to the bus - 2 hours and the slow ferry - about 2 hours too. The hydrofoil is expensive at 40€ each way but sure beats a water taxi at 350€ each way! Early start to the day, at Nice station at 7am for a train (45 mins) to Ventimiglia. A short wait, then on next train (4 hours) to Milano Centrale. A long ride but we had our own private cabin with sliding door and curtains on both sides. Very quaint. Milano Centrale was chaos. People everywhere but no ATM in sight. Eventually found just one on the lower floor. Old, rumbly train (1 hr) to Varenna. Short walk to the ferry dock for our last (20 min) journey to B...
