Spent a leisurely last morning in Venice. Our train not until 1.00 so no rushing. Breakfast beside the canal. Watching the world float past. The girls fed the pigeons with their breakfast rolls. A walk into the Jewish ghetto. Very interesting. Very quiet too. Away from the maddening crowds. Lots of Jewish religious things for sale, as well as jewellery. Enjoyed our stay, although would not rush back to Venice. Too busy, with just too many tourists. The shops selling the same stuff wherever you look. Also we think we got bed bugs from our stay there. Both Mario and I have red dots here and there. Nice, quick train ride to Bologna. Loved it from the moment we arrived. Nice taxi driver who knew our hotel and took us directly there (wow). Even told us where to stand was for our trip back and a taxi phone card just in case. Our hotel part of a building and on the third floor. Not a flashy place but a very big, spacious room. Bed each for the girls, even a spare couch in the room. Fishtanks in the two communal rooms that the girls had a play with (naughty!). And a lift! (what no stairs!) The location is terrific, in the middle of the historic centre. The buildings are so big and old. There are also shops as far as the eye can see. Enjoyed a pizza overlooking the main piazza and church. For dinner we followed the recommendations of the hotel and went to a traditional trattoria. Mario was in heaven. A simple ham tagliattelle, followed by meatballs and boiled potatoes. Waddled back to our hotel.
