Saz and Dave's travels
Today we got up at 5am as we all wanted to watch the sun rise over Angkor Wat - a massive temple complex here in Siem Reap. It was really hard to get up so early after yesterday but we didn't want to miss out. However as it was quite cloudy the sun rise was not quite as spectacular as we had hoped, more of a sensational let down at that hour. We had a quick look round - even at 6am the place was packed with tourists - before returning to the guesthouse for breakfast. Breakfast was ace - warm bread, butter and jam, omelette, pineapple pancake and fresh fruit.
After a quick kip we all headed back to Angkor Wat and paid US$20 to get a day pass. We went to Angkor Thom, Bayon, Ta Prohm (where Tomb Raider movie was filmed), the terrace of the elephants and Angkor Wat - 900 yrs old and spectacular (where we tried to watch the sun rise earlier). It was all very interesting and good to have a guide to point things out to us. There were loads of tourists, mainly Japanese and European and everywhere you went little children tried to sell you things - bracelets, camera film, books etc - all have really good English and are very pushy! Everyone looks so poor here and the children are really small for their ages - 10 yr olds look like 5 yr olds which is quite upsetting.
For tea we went to another nice restaurant, cocktails, spring rolls, chicken and cashew nuts and noodles and beef/r. Had an early night tonight as knackered!
By the way
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RACHEL LOCKE WHO IS 22 TODAY !!!!
