Saz and Dave's travels
We left Siem Reap today at 6.45am to go to Kompong Cham. This was a 5 hour journey on a public bus, which wasn't too bad as there was air conditioning and we made a couple of stops but it was truly gross when the woman next to us was sick into her headscarf and then her little girl was sick too - probably due to the bumpyness of the road (Lauren you would have hated it!). We gave them our loo roll to clean up but the smell just made us feel sick too and we were really glad to get off!
When we got to Kompong Cham we walked to our guesthouse which had a great view out over the Mekong river.
After lunch we all hired bikes (no gears) and went for a bike-ride around the small island near our hotel. To get there we had to ride over a really long bamboo bridge that seemed a bit rickety and really narrow, especially when a motorbike carrying a great bundle of hay was trying to pass us in the other direction! The bike ride was fun but a bit hot. We rode past loads of children and they all shouted 'hello' and wanted to do hi-5's as we went past. One bloke of about 26 (who looked about 18) tagged along saying he wanted to practice his English but when it came down to it he wanted us to pay him $60 a month to pay for his education!
After riding through some tobacco fields and past some massive skinny cows, we went back over the bridge to the hotel. Later we had burgers and chips for tea yum!
