Sara's Journey
Howdie Folks!
Well i am now in Northern Thailand in a city called Chaing Mai. We left Ko Samui 3 days ago and had a nightmare journey getting here! It was a 12 hour coach journey which was rather uncomfortable as you can all imagine! We then had a 2 hour ferry trip on the grottiest ferry you have ever seen! I attempted to go to the toilet which was not a good idea as they 99% of the toilets in Thailand are squat toilets with no toilet paper and no flush! You get a large tank of water next to each toliet which is filled with grotty water which you are meant to put down the toilet with a plastic bowl and that constitutes what the Thai's call a flush, ha ha, oh yeah and you are also meant to wash your hands in this bloody water too, you can all imagine that i wasnt too happy with this arrangement but when you gotta go you gotta go!
Any way enough of the toilet saga! We then arrived in Bangkok after being dropped off in the middle of nowhere for 3 hours! We had already booked our hostel in Chaing Mai which was lucky as we were sooo tired after the trip we just had a shower and crashed till 1pm the next day! Chaing Mai is completey different from the islands, there is so much to do and the culture is amazing! We have been really busy the last two days, yesterday we went on a Thai cookery course for the day which was so mcuh fun! The school was in the middle of a field and all the ingredients were fresh and hand picked there. We cooked so many dishes, Thai Green Curry, Chicken and Cashew nuts, spring rolls, Tom Yung Soup (prawns and coconut) and the National Thai dish, Pad Thai (noodles and vegetables with lot of other yummy things!) But hte best thing was that we got to eat each dish after it was cooked so by the end of the day Jenny and i had to be practically rolled out of the place, he he!
We have had another action packed day today as we went jungle trekking! Oh my god it was hard work! We starte dthe day with a 1 hour elephant ride through a jungle, it was hilarious as i actually found something that Jenny was scared of, she was so scared of being on the elephant but i had to have a little giggle as we picked the moodiest one and it kept trying to get us off with its trunk and wander of the track but it was all good fun! We tehn had the thing i was dreading, the trek into the jungle. Well it was more like a hike up Mount Everest in te 35 degree heat, we had to cross rivers over bamboo stick bridges and climb various rock formations whikst putting up with the heat and oh the flamming insects were horrible. I cant believe i made it to the end! Thank goodness my ankle is nearly better, well it was! Then we stopped for some Thai lunch which was well needed before heading off for the bamboo rafting! That was the funniest part of the day! We had to sit on these really long bamboo rafts which are rather tempremental! We tried to stay dry which was a joke as the thing sunk about 3 or 4 times and we ended up swimming the river! We then reached the mad part of the river where all the locals were lined up on the banks of the river as its a sunday and they dragged us off the rafts into the river to play with them! It was comlplete mahem but extremely funny as we ended up having water fights with them! Oh and also went to see two tribes that live in the jungle, you wouldnt believe the way these people live, its completely unimaginable until you see it. They have nothing but so contented with their lives, it really makes you think about your own life and whats important.
We are leaving Chaing Mai tomorrow and going to another town called Pai which is meant to be pituresque so im looking forward to chilling out for a few days after my mad jungle trek! Im just about to try and download some photos so fingers crossed! Thank you all for your messages, i really appreciate them as im so far from home!
Ill be contact from Pai, until then Love you all lots xxxxxxx
