Howdie guys! well we have been in Cairns for 5 days now! We left Airlie Beach and travelled to a place called Townsville to catch a ferry to Magnetic Island. We arrived in Magnetic Island at about 5 pm and our hostel was horrible! It was one of the worst ones wehave stayed in since being in Oz. The rooms were so smal land had 3 bunk beds crammed in and the floor, walls and everything else you can imagine was made of concrete and just left grey, not even a lick of paint! It was like a prison cell! We dumped our bags and got some dinner before heading back to the 'cell'! Two Canadian guys had checked in by then so we had a little chat with them and ended up going out for a drink with them, well quite a few drinks! Everything closes at about midnight on the isaknd so we found some irish people sitting in the local bus stop with some beer and we joined them for a few before heading to bed! the next day we hired out a little car called a Moke whcih is like a tiny mini but with no sides and a roof you can put down! It was like driving a vintage car as it was made in the 60's, it had a choke which was something new to me! we drove around the Island which took all of about 30 minutes! The weather wasnit too good which was a shame as some of the beaches were beautiful. W stopped at the local Koala sanctuary in the afternoon which was really lovely. It was run by an old lady who rescued orphaned kangaroos, birds and koalas. We were allowed in the cages with the kanagroos and koalas so we were able to stroke and cuddle them! The koalas were adorable and seem really strange animals as they just stare at you in amazement! Some of the birds talked to us which was hilarious, they wouldnt stop going on, like old women nattering away! That evening we went out with the Canadian guys again and we all decided to leave the next morning as there wasnt that much to do on the Island. Jenny and I nearly missed the ferry (surprise surprise!) but we just caught it in time! The Canadian guys were also goig to Cairns next so we jumped in their car for the 5 hour journey! Once we reached Cairns it was a nightmare trying to find somewhere to saty as it was packed btu we eventually managed to find a hostel. I hate to say it but we have been doing very little in Cairns apart from partying, every night! We have been to the cinema twice as most days we have been hungover! tehy say Cairns is the party town and they are not wrong! We leave today to fly to Sydney, i cany believe we only have 5 days left in Oz, its gone so quick! Well i will update you all when i have some news from the great town of Sydney! Love Sara xxxxxxxx
