My last weekend in tobago has drawn to a close. It's been busy.
Friday night we went to shades. We drank a fair bit, some might say too much and I definitely paid the price on Saturday with an almighty hangover. Saturday was consequently spent on bacolet beach recovering. Whilst eating some chips at the beach bar we spotted a rather beautiful looking coloured bird. The next minute he flew down grabbed a chip out of my hand and disappeared. It was all a bit of a shock.
Saturday evening we headed over to turtle bay to watch them release some baby turtles into the sea. They were adorable. It was a rather lovely moment as the waddled their way to the water and a wave would eventually come and wash them into the sea.
Today we had a full day tour of the island. Kell, jen, Blair and I and our local guide in a car. We stopped at various places starting with the fort next to the hospital. Then we went to castara which is a beautiful little fishing village. The next stop was old Englishmans bay, apparently the most beautiful beach on the island. If I'm honest I don't think it was that much more spectacular than any other beach. Yes it was long with palm trees and jungle right up to the sand but the sea was pretty rough. A wave came out of nowhere and soaked my towell as well so I wasn't that impressed. We then began the journey to Jemmas treehouse restaurant. On the way the car began producing copious amount of smoke from the bonet. So we stopped and a hose had burst. We then waited over an hour in the sun for someone to come and fix it. Luckily we had a waterfall next to us for water cooling down. At one point our driver got into someone else's car and left us saying he would be back in 5 minutes. We did start debating whether he would ever return. He did thank god. Lunch at the restaurant was ok just the standard randomness of the Caribbean (I can't wait to be back home when it comes to food!). We then went to the argyll falls, a waterfall in the middle of the jungle. It was pretty but what I don't get about Tobago is why people leave litter everywhere. You have something spectacular attracting lots of visitors and it's usually got it's fair share of rubbish in it's vicinity.
I'm now knackered after the tour and a little bit sunburnt. Only 5 more days on placement then it's home time. I need to get my forms signed saying I have done placement in the next 2 days when the consultant is about. I'm still looking forward to going home...I'll miss Tobago and the weather but I could never live in a country like this forever!
