With no real plans for today we took the opportunity to have a sleep in and a relaxed breakfast without the pressing need to be somewhere. We were simply going to spend the day wandering around Verona, sipping espresso's and seeing Juliet's balcony.
Not long into the day tragedy struck us! Upon parking the car and gathering our things from the seat our beloved camera fell to the ground, of all the places it's been and survived it drops while getting it from the car. The only mode that takes photo's now is the sports setting, but there is a thick dark border across the bottom of the picture. b*****! Our day was now about finding a camera store (on a Sunday) to try and find out how bad it is, but with only a department store open an expert was hard to find.
After phoning to get advice on how our travel insurance works for this we've decided we have to send it off for repairs and make a claim when we return home, being on the road however means it'll need to be sent home once fixed. Bye bye nice camera...... The positive out of this is that we'll bring forward the purchase of a new little digital camera a lot sooner than planned. It is now a top priority so we can continue to capture our dream holiday.
With our moods dampened by the camera issue we pressed on to find some food and go over the "if only's" in our heads, you need to allow yourself time to vent it all out in order to get back to the right perspective when these things happen.
We did however see Juliet's balcony and the bronze statue that stands below it. Legend has it that if you gently rub Juliet's right breast you'll have luck in love, as we are now planning a wedding it made sense to give it a go and not take any chances getting to the day. With all the attention the statue has had over the years her breast has been buffed into a glorious shine!
Having now had our first real "bad day" we headed back to the hotel before venturing out again to grab some dinner. Early bed tonight as we need to have the car back in Milan tomorrow morning, planning to be up and out by 8am!
