This morning we prepared to check out of our beloved bungalow and set forth on our big driving day that would take us from Tarragona Spain to Montpellier France, a drive time of 4.5hrs but with rest stops and lunch we were allowing 6hrs in the car. Highway speed limits of 130kph certainly help cover the distance, particularly when traffic does it's usual 10kph over that.
After sending Liv a message for her 10th birthday ( HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU XOXO ) we hit the road.We took the toll roads for this part of the trip as we were after the most direct route, the scenic drive will occur closer to the riviera, and decided to take lunch in Narbonne France after a recommendation from the caretaker at the campgrounds in Tarragona.
Back on the highway we pushed on at a leisurely 135kph towards Montpellier for an overnight stop and arrived safely at the hotel at around 4pm, leaving us enough time to check-in and drive the 10mins into the town centre for dinner. Montpellier is a beautiful town with a great mix of old & new allowing you to experience a range of things in a short time, given we were only here for a night this worked out well.
Again we explored the "old town" with it's narrow streets and again I kept losing Sarah to her camera as she savoured every detail she could find. I must look like a freak at times as Sarah often stops for photo's without telling me and I go on down the street thinking I'm still talking to her, only to realise I've walked 50 meters talking to nobody!
During dinner tonight we took some time to reflect on the 5yr anniversary of losing my Dad, he'd love to know that we're having this adventure and hopefully he's watching over us as we make our way around Europe... R.I.P xoxo.......
After a great meal we wondered back through town towards the car, again we couldn't help ourselves and stopped for crepes.....YUM YUM!
We had booked ourselves a cheap roadside motel for tonight about 10mins from town, not much to do there but the car solves that problem perfectly. Having a car is a bit of a double edged sword at times, as it opens up the towns and areas off the highways, however when booking accommodation a parking spot is an absolute must. This can push you out of the town centre but often makes rooms a bit cheaper, it certainly makes hostels a little harder to find.
