Today I leave Koh Phi Phi and travel by boat back to the main land to a little beach town called Ao Nang. The weather isn't looking particularly great as it has been raining non stop for the last 4 hours or so and as someone pointed out to me last night it's going to be like this for the next couple of days. Now...back to the unusual title of this blog.
Yesterday I went diving at 2 sites from Koh Phi Phi (Bida Nok and Malong) and yet again it was a wonderful experience. The first dive I think I was slightly blind since apparently there were 3 black tipped sharks in the water which I missed and everyone else saw so...instead of accepting blindness I am just blaming it on low visibility! We did however see some Hawksbill turtles on the first dive. It was a lovely sunny day and we got to lunch just off of the coast of Maya Bay. Yet again a disappointment since there were about 20 speed boats all parked up at the side of the beach. Heed warning future travellers...go in the afternoon if you intend to go to Maya Bay!
The second dive was much more productive, within minutes of being underwater we'd seen 3 turtles just swimming about minding their own business and casually ignoring the 5 divers staring at them in awe. Tristan the DM taking the dive called me blind and I bet him that I had to see turtles AND sharks if I was going to agree to do my DM at the shop. Thus this became his mission to get me to see sharks and once he had spotted one he called me over and we waited...it swam right past us...less than 4ft from where we were hovering. I couldn't believe it! A black tipped reef shark about 5 ft long right in front of us just casually swimming round in the surf of the reef. A definite high five moment in the sea at that point!
Getting back on land I had a chat with Adrian at the dive shop and he was very convincing on doing the Dive Master Internship here on Koh Phi Phi. It made me think for a while that's for sure and I wanted to talk to someone sensible from home before just rushing into something stupid. I believe he paid me a compliment when I asked why I should do it now, he said because he can just look at someone and tell they love to dive, it'd be something I wanted to do whether I knew it yet and I would be the best kind of person and the most fun to have hanging about in the shop for 5 months. This I will admit almost clinched it. However, I have had to say farewell to Koh Phi Phi for the moment and promised I would be back to do my Dive Master this time next year in time for high season.
You never know, this could be a possible career change and I could develop into an instructor but Australia is calling me in a months time. For now it's on to Malaysia and Singapore where I plan to spend my birthday this year. Singapore sling from Raffles anyone??
Oh and I finally found some 7 up on Koh Phi Phi! Take that Matt for teasing me! So naturally the picture is the mountain of cans I bought from the shop!
