I always said that I would be able to die happy knowing that I had touched a Tiger or bottle fed a Tiger Cub. Well...I don't want to die yet, but I did it! Today I went to Tiger Kingdom just outside of Chiang Mai where I spent the afternoon bottle feeding and stroking Tiger cubs and then sitting with the fully grown Adult Tigers.
I had heard bad reviews about these sorts of places and how they were drugged up or chained to the floor but I have to be honest, I saw none of this whilst I was at Tiger Kingdom. They are Tigers which are born in captivity so are used to human contact, to some extent of course...you can't go putting your hand in it's mouth for a joke or anything!
After I arrived the first place I went to was the enclosure which housed the 4 month old Cubs. SO CUTE!!! There were 5 of them, all about the same age, dozing in the sun, lapping up the bottled milk and playing with the random toys in the pen. I got to cuddle, stroke and pet the little Cubs, after holding one of their paws in my hands, it made me realise once again how small my hands actually are! Tiger fur as it turns out is quite coarse and I came out of there not only with a big smile on my face but lots of hair all over my clothes! I got a little sad leaving behind those beautiful blue eyes but I was then headed over to the Adult Tiger pen...
Once inside, the carers gave us strict instructions about no sudden movements, running or shouting. Looking at the size of the Tigers in there, I thought I would comply! I got to spend my time with Lola, a beautiful fully grown female Tiger. Able to kill me with one sweep of her paw if annoyed! But...luckily too busy sunbathing to bother, instead I got tail-lash (Tiger Whiplash) across my legs when she rolled over! I only got a few pictures of me with each of the Tigers as I forgot to charge my camera last night, however it's something I will remember without photos!
