After yet another interesting trip to the Island bar last night in the Siem Reap night market I was up nice and early to go to Banteay Srei and 1000 Linga waterfall with Marion. I can see why not many people do this on their own and take a tour there since it was about an hours journey by Tuk Tuk to get to Banteay Srei alone.
On arrival it is definitely a more developed tourist site, I mean there's even a gift shop! Banteay Srei is a nice little temple dubbed the 'ladies temple' possibly to the pink tinged stone and occasional feminine statues. I think I finally hit my saturation point with regards to temples today when everywhere you looked there were Japanese tourists blocking the doors and windows taking photos so we couldn't walk round or through. The weather today was much hotter and definitely not the best for walking round.
After the pink temple, we took another ride to the 1000 Lingas waterfall. This is a waterfall which has 1000 carvings into the stones. We arrived and noticed that there was a sign informing us that it was 1500m walk. Not too bad...however...this was going to be another Born Survivor moment just like Luang Prabang. This walk was actually a mountain climb 1500m up not along! Less than half way up I think my enthusiasm waned but it was worth it once again by the time we got to the top. I think I twinged my knee on the way down so it took slightly longer than planned. I seem to be falling apart what with my new knee twinge and my already aching back and the arches of my feet still aching despite having a fish spa the night before.
Lunch I will admit was funny though. I looked through the menu and came across Fried Rice, Vegetable with Children! I laughed my head off and so did all the Tuk Tuk drivers sitting there waiting for their fares. It was nice though since it was actually Chicken *laugh*.
The journey back saw us take in the Land Mine museum in which a former defected member of the Khmer Rouge started defusing land mines across Cambodia and created the museum and welfare fund for affected Children. Tonight I had an early one, met Tony for dinner and then went to sleep. Tomorrow sees me get a long bus ride back to Bangkok before heading to southern Thailand. Really not looking forward to it but it's a necessary evil! Also not sure whether the 'evil' is referring to the bus journey or Bangkok! *laugh*.
The picture is a black and white shot of Banteay Srei.
