Today we Said goodbye to Cambodia and crossed the border into Vietnam.
It was quite a late arrival so we literally showered, changed and met for dinner.
We went to 'Go Bar' and ate at the rooftop open air BBQ restaurant. We literally decided what we wanted from the menu and cooked it on our own little BBQs that were built into our tables. I ate a spicy chicken dish with steamed rice and garlic bread and it was so good! Wasn't so sure on me cooking it but it all turned out good (I did get a little bit of help from the waitress!)
After dinner and quite a few happy hour cocktails, we headed to a few different bars and then made our way back to the hotel.
The following day was hectic! We got to see the 'real' Ho Chi Minh City! One word-motorbikes!! I cannot explain to you just how many there are in this city!! To cross the road you basically have to close your eyes and just walk into about 30 on coming bikes! At one point I just froze and a really lovely young Vietnamese girl grabbed my hand and helped me cross! Bless her!
So we headed off into the city in hope that I could find a camera repair shop. After walking around all morning I still hadn't found anywhere but we did get to see a lot of non tourist areas!
I gave up on the camera shop and we headed for lunch and drinks (non alcoholic!)
After lunch we headed to Benh Thanh markets at the opposite end of the city to which we had walked in the morning.
The markets were good but kind of insane! People grabbing your arms and shoving t-shirts in your face! The words 'no thank-you' get used a lot here!!! Totally mental! Oh and I have to say I did avoid the food section just because it's rank!! Raw meats hanging in hot temperatures including duck heads and chicken bodies, really don't let off a good smell!!
We gave the markets about 45minutes before giving in and walking elsewhere.just outside the main markets were other little stalls one of which sold cameras, so I asked if they could fix mine! Brave move, it looked dodgy but I figured what the hell it's broken anyway! So I left it with them!
In the evening I nervously went to collect my camera-phew it was there and it was fixed!! I'm not sure how well, but as long as it makes it back to the UK I'll be happy!
So camera in hand I headed out for dinner with Felicity, enjoyed some local Vietnamese food and headed in for a fairly early night an also to meet the new girl joining our tour.
Next stop is the Mekong Delta and our homestay :-)
