Sarah and Nicola Matthews' Travels
Hi,
We have arrived in Brisbane now and it seems really nice.
Despite our first impressions of Surfers Paradise being like a tacky resort we had a really good time there. The hostel we were staying in wasn't the most comfortable in the world and the kitchen verged on the edge of a health hazard but it was definitely a very friendly hostel. We met a really nice group of girls from Croydon so we spent a lot of time with them.
Surfers Paradise is all about relaxing in the day and going out at night so we did just that! We spent our days sunning ourselves on the beach and went out at night. Our
last night was really fun as we went out with the girls from Croydon and a guy we went to college with who was staying at our hostel. We had an early bus to Brisbane the next day so we told ourselves we would just go out for a few drinks but somehow even the best plans dont always work out! Especially when jugs of Snake Bite are on offer! But it was a good laugh anyway.
Needless to say we slept all the way to Brisbane and then proceeded to have a very lazy day that involved doing our washing, watching The OC and not much else. Though we did find out we have a lapdancer staying in our hostel room so its nice to know we are sharing with such classy people!
Today we explored the sights of Brisbane and it seems really nice. We had a quick walk around the shops, then walked along the river. They have an artificial beach on the edge of the river and it is really nice. It has loads of places to swim and lots of nice sand to relax on. We also took a walk through the Botanical gardens which was nice. Although we did manage to spot a scary lizard thing which is aparently called a Water Dragon. Caroline was very brave and stood right next to it while I stood at a safe distance and took a picture!
Tomorrow we are going to an Aboriginal centre to paint a Boomerang! I really want one and it sounds fun. Although given my complete lack of any artistic skills I will probably end up throwing the Boomerang away and hoping it doesn't return!
