We had an early breakfast & set off to the airport in good time just incase the traffic was mad again, it wasn’t too bad because it was a Sunday morning but I still ended up gripping my seat & pressing my imaginary brake quite a few times ha! The flight to Cusco was only just over an hour flight, we were flying with LC Peru who had lots of bad reviews for last minute cancellations & bad service but we had a smooth transit at both sides & the flight was good. We had a taxi waiting for us which we had pre arranged online, it was only about 15 minutes through the steep winding cobbled streets & a short hike up to the hotel. Our hotel was on the hillside in San blas it was a quirky family run boutique hotel with a lovely storytale about how they had acquired & renovated the building. Each room had a different theme & the small touches were lovely! We were offered coco tea on arrival which is meant to help with altitude sickness because Cusco is almost 11200ft above sea level, I could feel it almost straight away but kurt seemed the be fine. We went for a walk around the centre, Cusco is the oldest living city in the Americas officially over 3,000 years old, but pre-ceramic artifacts have been found there that date back 5,000 years. The Spanish colonial cathedrals alongside the original Inca architecture was stunning in the main square. The fascinating culture & history was seen through the textiles & street sellers, my favourites were the Peruvian ladies with the alpacas I wanted to take a picture of every one of them. We went into a bar with a nice wooden balcony overlooking the plaza for a few beers in the sunshine it was a great spot for people watching, later we watched basketball in a sports bar then ended up playing darts. We had a great first day & couldn’t wait to explore more of the city...
