We had a well deserved lie in or what we could, the hotel was right on the main path up to Machu piccu so hikers & shuttles started at 4.30am so we woke to the noise, but I was that tired I kept drifting back off! Didn’t feel too achy yet so we decided to go & explore around the valley, the receptionist at the hotel was lovely she recommended a nice scenic walk to a waterfall, it was mainly a flat trail along the old railway track towards the next village. We followed the signs then found a small campsite with a cute garden area, they gave us instructions how to get through the rainforest up to the waterfalls, there was lots of butterfly’s & insects which I didn’t particularly like but it was a nice walk with lots of information posts. The waterfalls were only small & Kurt was disappointed he couldn’t swim in them. We had a few drinks in the sunshine at the campsite before heading back. We passed lots of hikers who looked like they had been walking days to get to Machu Picchu. We had a shower & went out for tea in the village & a few drinks before heading back to pack up the rucksack ready for the train in the morning.
