Today the weather was still pretty crappy so we decided to take the train over to Denmark to see if it would be any better there!! The train crosses over half by bridge and then a tunnel and then we were in central Copenhagen! Awesome!! We walked through town and checked out the old government buildings before meeting up with Stinas friend Dimitri who has lived there for 8 years. After grabbing a quick bite and a beer he was more than happy to play tour guide! We walked towards the statue of the little mermaid and on the way he told us about all the famous old buildings and facts about the city! We passed where Hans Christensen Andeson used to
Live, the royal palace, the marble church, saw the little mermaid statue, Vor Frelsers Kirke ( with a cool steeple you can walk around the outside of) past the canals and waterways. In Copenhagen at the moment they have am Asian Elephant sculpture exhibition going on all over the city. Different artists have decorated these large elephant statues and they are placed all over town. Later they will auction them off and the proceeds will go towards saving the Asian Elephant!
Next Dimitri took us to a society within a society, the town, or area of Christiania. Christiania is a community of alternative people who the goverent has allowed to continue to live with their own set of rules. Pot is openly sold and smoked and people have their self sufficient houses and gardens and lots of art ams community
Projects going on! It was really big with pathways heading all over the place. Dimitri took us for a tour and then we sat on the bridge in the middle to drink a beer and watch everyone go by! It was a very cool area and hard to believe it is in the middle if Copenhagen!
After walking around all day we were exhausted so headed back to the train station and back to Sweden! Stina promised some friends we would meet up for drinks do we biked to the next town to meet them ! It was funny to see firstly so many young kids drinking jn a bar, and secondly so many preppy boys! They were all dressed in polo shirts with their sweaters over their shoulders! Adorable! After biking home in the rain we were defiantly ready for sleep - but a short one as had to wake up early to take the ferry to Germany!
