So we have lived in our little flat in Bondi now for nearly a month and it's been great! It seems an age since the last time I updated the blog, but we now have internet in our little abode so I am back online wooop!!
The past two weeks have been full of new and exciting experiences for me and Mr Stu.To celebrate my first full week of work here we had a glass or two of bubbly at the Opera bar which as it suggests sits at the base of the Sydney Opera House looking out to the Harbour Bridge. It was quite a view to celebrate with.I think the great Australian summer which us Britt's are told about has at last got into its stride. With this in mind we went to the moonlight cinema in the local Centennial Park with the cousin's.We saw the social network and despite my scepticism about the film I thoroughly enjoyed it, but that might have been due to wine and peanut butter m&m's....yummy!!
That weekend we walked Sydney's version of the Wirral coastal walk, admittedly it was a lot more enjoyed, but this was probably because it wasn't raining and the views were amazing. We walked the 5KM walk from Bondi beach to Coogee beach via Tamarama beach, Bronte beach (our local beach), Clovelly and then Coogee beach. We had a dip in each beach along the walk which was truly needed as the sun was getting to me a bit, I am still acclimatising I think. We found an amazing find at Clovelly beach; the beach leads out to sea via a narrow water way where you can snorkel and scuba dive.We didn't go that far as I am still a bit scared of the intensity of the waves here but this was the perfect place for Stu to teach me about the waves here as the narrow water way acts as a buffer from the huge waves out to sea.So I gingerly got into the water as Stu effortlessly battled against the waves which I thought were huge but in comparison to Bondi were tiny.We bopped around there for a bit, bought a hot dog and carried on with the walk to Coogee. We stopped off here again for a swim in the sea. This was my first real experience of Australian waves (apart from the not so great body boarding incident on Christmas Day).I made Stu stay by my side as we ventured out past the waves making sure we ALWAYS stayed between the flags in case I was about to drown ha-ha!To my relief stu kept me safe and educated me about the rip and the nature of waves and I actually really enjoyed myself. After a yummy ice cream we started our 5KM walk back to Bondi again stopping for the odd swim, this time I wasn't quite so scared...all thanks to Stu.
This week we got to experience our very first Australia Day-to me this was great as it meant a day off work YAY!! Like the big kids that we are we headed into Circular Key for the Ferry race from Shark Point to the Harbour Bridge. The Ferries which race where decorated to the extreme. One ferry was clearly sponsored and decorated by ANZ bank, the next was pretending to be a whale which might have been the reason it won and another was hippy heaven.Sydney Harbour was full to the brim of every type of vessel possible, Stu was mesmerised by the tall ships whereas I felt very sorry for the silly people who decided to kayak across the motorway like harbour....silly silly idea, I was surprised they didn't capsize at the very least. It was so refreshing sitting there with the Opera house to our back, the Bridge in front and genuinely patriotic people around us who were incredibly proud of their country. We saw hundreds and hundreds of flags lining the boats, streets and people, we even did our bit with an Aussie flay each and joined in with the spontaneous Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi!!!!Everyone was so happy (and relieved not to be in work) in the sun celebrating Australia Day.On our way to my cousins for a typical Aussie BBQ we headed through Hyde Park (No we didn't pop back to London for an hour or two) to experience the buzz of people, shows, food and BBQs.We had a typical Aussie BBQ surrounded by lots of people from the UK and only one Aussie in the end......actually all the kiddies were Aussie sort of I suppose. We got decorated in Aussie flag fake tattoo transfers, ate some amazing food (Lamb-which you are apparently meant to eat on this day), played in the pool and drank some delicious Aussie wine.It was such a fun day all in all, and thinking about it now for Australia I think it was much much bigger than Christmas!
It's crazy to think that was only Wednesday it seems about two weeks ago but in fact it is only Sunday now.We are sitting on the sofa watching Murray in the final...let's hope he wins! We supported him in style on a big screen on Bondi beach Friday evening when he won his semi final. Was a great way to watch the tennis with the beautiful beach behind the screen, some pink bubbly and a picnic...I could get used to this life!
Yesterday we headed to Rose Bay with my cousin and her family. We climbed in to two double kayaks and headed out to the harbour where I get very over excited about seeing the Bridge and Opera House again. Was a very good morning as we floated along with such beautiful scenery in front of us and had a celebratory pot of tea.Again we spent our afternoon in true Aussie style and had another BBQ before I got to bake for the first time since we have been away...pretty awesome day.
Following our athletic Saturday Stu finally booked his surf lesson for this morning that I got him for his B'Day months ago.I sat and watched him catch a few waves and unfortunately get splattered by a few more....I was happy there was a life guard standing close by ready to save my Stu if he got crushed by a big wave.We then decided to treat ourselves and as it was technically Stu's birthday celebrations today we went for a fancy meal at North Bondi Italia which practically sits on the beach, the views, food and wine was excellent. After a nose through some shops and an ice cream we are now home watching the Murray final.I hope he wins but atm he has just lost his first set so not looking too great but maybe he will turn things around like Friday night.
Anyways I best be off and get my things organised for school tomorrow.
Toodle pip, it won't be so long till our next update x
