Throughout the volcanic park there are these emissions. It was just like being at Rotorua again.
The last major eruption on this volcano was 1983. It took out roads, 200 houses and the previous visitor centre.

Here is Sarah in the lava tube. This forms within a lava flow when the outside solidifies and the centre is still molten and runs through it.

There are 5 main volcanoes on Big Island. Mauna Loa the biggest, Mauna Kea the highest above sea level and this is the crater of Kilauea which is currently the most active.
