24th Feb - Krabi Town
In the style of Nick from Big Brother 1.. ¡§we er made a mistake!¡¨ Looking at the Lonely Planet guide it told us that we should go to Krabi, which we did after a ferry crossing. As soon as we arrived at Krabi Town, we realized it wasn¡¦t the picturesque place we thought it would be and having originally booked for 5 nights stay, we quickly changed this to 1 night! On our one night in Krabi Town, we did have fun in a local bar with some people we met from Amsterdam, Oz and the UK! Sarah was happy as she got to see her Chelsea game but her happiness soon turned to sorrow when Chelsea lost the game. First thing in the morning, we got a ¡§traumatic¡¨ long boat journey from Ko Lanta. Laden with all our heavy rucksacks, we had to climb 5ft from the harbour platform into a rickety old boat! As we are fully fledged backpackers, we
managed to do this without any help (not that it was offered!) from the captain!! We are not in Kansas anymore! Arrived about 11am at Railay Beach (East Side) and stayed at the Diamond Cove Resort.
25th Feb - Railay Beach (East Side)
Diamond Cove was very nice but be warned if you stay here, there are at least 188 stairs to get to your room!!! Very hilly and not good for the faint hearted!
We felt like we were on a mountaining course! A lovely man who worked for the hotel did carry both our big rucksacks himself to our room on the 1st day without even breaking a sweat! Looks are very deceiving as he was only 5ft 2in and not an inch of muscle on him!!! Blimey must be all the rice!!
26th Feb - Chilled by pool at the Diamond resort.
27th Feb - spent on the beach. Beautiful beach and amazing sunset.
28th Feb - Railay East Side
Went on a 4 island speedboat tour. We felt like we were Crockett and Tubbs for the day! Whizzing around the islands with our fellow passengers from Sweden!
Visited a beautiful island called Poda Island and did some snorkeling, also visited Chicken Island (the rocks look like a chicken head!) and then visited an island where there were lots of monkies being fed and also a very strange shrine to a certain part of the ¡¥male form¡¦ shall we say!! Very strange but funny! Half way through the trip the heavens opened and unfortunately it started to rain ƒ¼ Miami Vice quickly turned into The Perfect Storm! We were sitting at the back of the speedboat and resorted to putting on our snorkels to help us see (and breathe!) on the trip back to land!!
The East Side of Railay Beach is more Bohemiem side of the island with bars dedicated to Bob Marley and a small choice of places to eat. The West Side is much more catered for families and couples but nevertheless we decided to go over to the West Side to stay for a few nights. Our hotel is called the Sand Sea Resort and situated right on the beach, lovely pool and quiet atmosphere.
Sorry that we haven't been able to download many pictures recently, we are having a few technical problems in Thailand! We plan to download our pictures of Krabi and Phi Phi when we're back home next week so keep your eyes peeled!!
