Sarah's and Becky's Travels...!
We flew into Christchurch, where we spent a few days, not really doing a lot! We met up with Sarah's cousin which was cool, and just tried to adapt to the cold and the quiet emptiness that is New Zealand! We then got a bus down to Queenstown. It was quite an amazing journey, 6 hours long, through lovely mountainous scenery and not much else! There are so few inhabited places here!!
When we got to Queenstown we were really pleased, as its a small but really buzzing town, round a lake and surrounded by mountains. Beautiful! However, we were a little concerned that there was no snow, and it later transpired no jobs or houses either!! But we were lucky enough to be staying in the best hostel, where we could see the moutains from our beds, and we made a really great group of friends.
We spent most of our days in the beginning job and house hunting and checking out all the bars, and luckily the snow began to fall and we eventually moved into an apartment with an Argentinian guy. We bought our ski and snowboard gear, and as soon as the mountain opened we went up! Its different to how we expected, a lot smaller than European ski resorts, and primarily boarders, but beautiful nonetheless. However, on the last run of the second day Bec had a bad fall, had to get toboganed down the mountain and later taken by ambulance 3 hours south to hospital as it turned out she'd broken her knee. b*****. Absolutely devastated. We were told she couldn't ski again this season (Words less polite than b*****!) and after nearly a week in hospital and an operation involving 2 big screws being put in to hold the joint in place, she came home!
Sarah continued to job hunt and board (getting pretty good now and even attempting rails!!) and then managed to get a job as a liftie up the mountain! Its pretty sociable and they organise nights out for the staff such as jug night and shot night!! She's also caught up with a friend from home, and Bec's bro James came to visit which was really cool and they visited some places out of Queenstown, and she's getting stronger on crutches now so can venture out of the house a bit!
We haven't quite decided what to do next as the situation has now changed a bit, but we'll keep you posted!
