First of all, sorry that i have not updated this blog for a while now. I wrote one mid-week but there was a powercut before i could save it and i never got round to re-writing it.

The weekend - Day 13-16
(Thursday 12th - Sunday 15th)

Early on Thursday morning Tara arrived, she will be teaching English at the centre and in other schools near by.
Because there were going to be stikes on Friday, (something to do with Trivandrum not having a supreme high court) we headed out of the city and into Varkala on Thursday evening. We stayed at a guesthouse about 2 minutes walk from the beach. That night we met a group of people also staying at the guesthouse and got some food with them along the cliff top.
Varkala's beach is at the base of a cliff and it is only accesable by 3 sets of stairs that have been carved into the rock. This, and the fact that all the usual resurants and shops are at the top of the cliff, leaves the beach feeling quite secluded with only the occasional fruit seller to bother you.
On saturday we spent most of the day on the beach relaxing and sunbathing. Then in the evening we went to see the traditional Kathakali dance of Kerala. The make up and costumes were incredible and the story was surprisingly funny. After that we ate and then went up onto the roof of the guesthouse to stargaze and play with the puppies!!

It was a really good weekend and it was so nice just to be able to speak fluently in English!!
