Winding along the Mediterranean. Many green houses hanging on the hillsides. Many villages and ports far below. If you love tunnels, this is the route to take, counting over 70. Now going north towards Milano, Italy. The landscape changed from mountains to flat with farmland then back to mountains and gorges. Crossing back into France was through a tunnel 11 km long. The construction started in 1959 finish in 1965. On the other side we viewed the peaks of Aigeulles Rouges, Aiguille du Midi and the village of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc below. Chamonix is the site of the first Winter Olympics in 1924. Settled into our hotel room as the clouds and rain settled upon the village. The lift up 3.8 km to the peak and over to Italy closed due to weather. Walked to city center, not many souvenir shops mostly high end mountain gear, clothing, hotels and cafés. This is a place the hikers, climbers, jumpers (off the top with kite) from all over the world come to play. Found a restaurant with wonderful Lasagna, a coke cost 4,50 EUR and the wine 3,90 EUR. I had the wine!
