DONNA's BIRTHDAY!
Today Donna and I are doing a shore excursion "Scenic Drive to Hoellen and Vest Adger Open Air Museum" in southern Norway. Today is the only day on the trip where the ship will actually be tendered, not anchored in a deep water port.
Excavation crews found a 2000 year-old skull of a female they named "Sol". It is in the museum in Oslo.
Open Air Museum - Large White House is from 1800s, some are older, from the 1500s. Most of the brown wooden structures date to the 1700s. It is a typical small community of the era. Beds were small and 3-4 family members slept in each one. They slept sitting up because they believed only the dead laid down, and that their souls would escape through their mouth while they slept laying down. Carved wooden beer bowl- they screamed into the beer before drinking it because they thought it would make the beer stronger.
We went to Hoellen village, a former execution place and small fishing village.
Downtown Kristiansand- we walked around the Market Square, had some ice cream - cheese and rhubarb for me! And saw the town hall and a church.
Birthday lunch birthday girl Donna at Meny Rhett I Garnet at the fish market near port. I had fish and chips and Donna had the fried monkfish.
Since it was Donna's birthday today, the cabin was decorated for her, and I had pre-ordered a birthday cake for her for dinner.Ship departs at 5:00pm for overnight cruising to Stavanger, Norway.
