In true Asia fashion, we arrived to Penang 3 hours later than we were told. We were also told we would be dropped on the Island via the bridge but in fact we had to catch the ferry. This ended up being a positive as it meant we got a good view of the built up Island and it only cost 70p for the two of us! After a bit of a trek with our bags we finally arrived at our hostel!
First on the agenda was food as we had barely eaten a thing. This was easily available as the streets at night are filled with food stalls (and hookers... who all seem to have a thing for Samuel!!). We had one of the strangest and best dishes yet- rice cake stir fry with duck egg.
Shortly after dinner, the rain poured and we found ourselves in a quirky little cafe which we have since come back to twice in one day!
Georgetown is a heritage sight and very different from anywhere we've visited in Asia. Today we rented bikes to explore the quaint little alleys and lanes which are covered in street art. Our favourite lane, Love Lane had some lovely arty shops which we spent ages browsing in . If we weren't continuing to live out of backpacks for quite a while I'm sure a lot of money would have been spent!
As lovely as Georgetown is, the rest of Penang doesn't have a lot to offer and if we stayed here for too long I think we'd have to be rolled off the Island due to over eating!
Tomorrow morning we move onto the Perhentian Islands where we will be cut off from civilisation for a few days. This is always nice after visiting busy cities :)
