For the past 5 nights we had the pleasure of staying in a small wooden shack over looking the crystal waters of Perhentian Kecil, a small island off the east coast of Malaysia.
The island has no roads therefore should you want to visit one of the beaches further up the island, you just hop in a taxi boat!
We spent most of our time chilling on the gorgeous beaches, our favourite was romantic beach. We got there fairly early and there was just us and one other couple further up the beach...paradise! We enjoyed the beautiful waters and melted in the tropical heat! A perfect day!
The highlight of our time on the island has to be the day we spent snorkelling. Our first stop was turtle point. We jumped right in, looked down and feeding off the ocean bed was a huge impressive turtle. It then got crowed so our guide found us a different spot where we jumped in and hay presto, swimming along was another not so big but just as impressive turtle. As we ducked dived and swam next to it, it sped up and we couldn't keep up.
Next stop, shark point. No one was quite so keen to jump in this time, no surprise there. But finally the boat cleared, even Jazz, and we swam for what seemed like forever looking for sharks (something I never thought I'd say)! Finally we spotted a few deep at the bottom of the sea. I couldn't tell you exactly how big they were but they were certainly big enough!
We met some cool people on the island and after dinner one night we bumped into Meno from holland who was snorkelling with us the previous day.
He joined us for a drink and before long we had a little group huddled under a gazebo as it started to rain, all sharing tales of our travels so far. We all went to watch the fire show (which happens every night) but before it even started, monsoon rain fell from the sky and everyone squeezed in another gazebo like sardines in a can. It was quite surreal as we danced to some awful music on a paradise beach while it was absolutely hammering it down! The lightening forks that lit up the sky were also pretty impressive! We saw this on a couple of occasions during the evenings.
We had to be ready to get the boat back to the mainland at 8am this morning. We decided to get up a little earlier and watch the sun rise on the beach. It was so worth it... You can see from the pictures!
We are now in the Cameron Highlands where the weather is a lot cooler, which is actually quite nice especially as we are off on a trek tomorrow!
