We have just arrived back in busy KL for what was supposed to be a brief stopover, having been in the luscious Cameron Highlands for a couple of nights.
Very different from the other places we have visited in Malaysia, CH is up in the mountains surrounded by greenery and has a much cooler climate. As well as this, it is well known for its tea and strawberries.
We arrived much later than planned due to the insane traffic. We arrived on Saturday, also the kings birthday (meaning it was a bank holiday) and school holidays.
We wanted to visit the night market which is well known for its delicious dinners.. This was true and I even managed to get strawberries dipped in chocolate for dessert!
Luckily we managed to get a taxi to take us there as most taxi drivers weren't heading anywhere near there due to traffic. We weren't however so lucky when we wanted to leave so began the hour long walk back at 10pm! At least it was a warm up for the trekking the next day I guess!
As we only planned on having one day in CH we decided to book a full day trip to see all the sights. Normally this is about 6hrs, however on this occasion we were picked up at 9am and didn't arrive back until 8.30pm! We slept well!
First off was a trek in the jungle. Malaysia is home to the biggest species of flower; the Rafflesia, which we saw after trekking up and down for nearly 3 hours! By the time we reached the bottom, we had been trekking for four hours! This was rather hard work after a few weeks of mainly lying on beaches.
After refuelling at lunch we were taken to the beautiful fuzzy tea plantations where our very knowledgable (and hilarious) guide told us how they make the famous CH tea.
Our guide also took us to the highest peak in CH where we were in amongst the clouds and then to the eery mossy forrest, before taking us to the strawberry farm cafe. Everything was made from fresh strawberries so I couldn't resist a delicious cream tea.. The scones weren't as good as yours though Mum don't worry!
Our guide certainly made the day. I think we were his biggest fans, cracking up at every joke he made (whether he did it on purpose or not!)
Tomorrow we were supposed to be moving on to Melaka. However... A spontaneous decision was made today to book flights to go to Myanmar (Burma)! We've wanted to go there throughout our whole trip and finally decided that this little country couldn't wait. In a couple of years we're pretty sure it will be spoilt by tourists like us!
We cannot wait to fly there on Friday!! In the meantime there is lots of admin to be done in KL including getting crisp new US dollar notes!
Stay tuned for our Myanmar blog :)
