After a five hour bus trip and a tram ride, we arrived at our hotel about 9pm. After several nights spent in smelly dorms, we were looking forward to our double room. Unfortunately for us, the hotel had overbooked. Luckily they had a nice small dorm so we had somewhere to sleep. After a good sleep with only one other person in the dorm, we decided to stay another night with the hope we could catch a rugby game. No luck again, whole dorm was booked out so in to town we went to find somewhere to stay. The info centre found a double room at a hostel in the city centre. Seemed quite expensive but was a bed for the night. Got to the hostel which seemed quite pokey and random. Like the night before, things seemed quite disorganized. We were then told there was no room in the current building but there was in another building. After a short walk, we discovered that a 'double room' actually meant a whole spacious apartment to ourselves! We were pretty stoked with this as you can imagine. Then off to explore the crowded streets of Prague. We saw the main square and had some tasty but very expensive food. We walked up to the castle and cathedral before crossing the famous Charles bridge. By that time, it was beer'o'clock at an awesome medieval-themed bar, then home to bed. The next day, we did a day trip to the famous town of Kutna Hora, a world heritage site. Here we saw two cathedrals, an Italian court and some churches. However the biggest and quite morbid attraction is the ossuary - a chapel crypt decorated with the bones of approximately 40,000 people. We expected it to be creepy but it was actually quite amazing. The story goes that a bishop visited the holy land and bought back some soil which he spread over the cemetery. Everyone then wanted to be buried there and got too full. So they dug up the old bones and put them in the crypt. A half-blind monk then set about stacking the bones in to huge pyramids. Bones of the rich and famous were used to decorate archways and to create the coat of arms of the local reigning family. A huge chandelier was also created which includes every bone in the human body! After a hurried walk and a bit of a run, we made it just in time to board a very hot and very packed train back to Prague.
