So Ihla grande....... After an early start in rio and a reasonably long bus journey we arrived in Angra dos Reis to glorious sunshine! The only problem with such heat was the fact that we had to walk for 20mins with our backpacks to catch the ferry out to Ilha Grande. Very sweaty work. Once we eventually got on the ferry Rory realised he had left the guide book in the bank in town. After some very rudimentary portuguese and a nervous wait as I sat on the boat and the engines started Rory reappeared guidebook in hand. Then we were on our way! On arrival we were greated by an army of locals all selling their particular pousadas (guesthouses). For some reason we followed a slightly mangy looking old man accompanied by some equally mangy dogs (a feature of the island!) to his guesthouse. After a relatively quiet night we hit the sack ready for our early boat to the beach the next day. We hit Lopez mendez beach, apparently the best beach in brazil, nice and early and were greeted by 3km of white sand and big surf. We rented a surfboard for the day with very limited results to say the least! 2hours in the water and Rory finally caught one, but i still floundered! then just as we were getting out I hear the last thing on earth I expected on a remote beach on a remote island 10,000 miles from home, someone shouting ¨Sam¨ at me across the beach! One of my good friends from Deloitte was there with her friends soaking up some rays! Then we had a 5 a side football match against some Brazilian fisherman. After discovering all Brazilians are amazing at football, but can't handle the physicality of the English game, we mounted a comeback culminating in a stunning goal by me from 1metre out finally losing 5-2. In the evening we went out for some drinks with my Deloitte friend and her mates and then sat on the beach relaxing as one of them played his guitar. Just another day in paradise!
