After a long bus journey we arrived in Sao Paulo in the evening and grabbed a taxi into town in search of accommodation. The first place we tried was full so we looked in the guide book and it appeared there was a hotel around the corner. We hadn't bargained on the vast scale of Sao Paulo and after a while looking we took a taxi. That around the corner hotel was 15minutes away by car! The only thing of note about the hotel was the fact that the light switch and plug socket for the bathroom were literally in the shower!! We had arranged to have dinner with a contact of Rory's dad and his wife that evening. Luiz Campello and his wife picked us up in his flash looking Mercedes and took us to a "not sophisticated" restaurant with valet parking and immaculate service! We tried the heart of a palm tree which apparently is incredibly hard to get hold of fresh. Then had the traditional steak, the best we had had in Brazil. For pudding I had some delicious caramelised banana pancakes. The conversation was also very interesting and included the odd jaw dropping comment such as "a very good friend of mine who bought Wembley.". Although Luiz kindly paid we estimated the meal and wine cost about three days worth of our budgets!
