We have arrived in Tulum. An adorable beach town south of Cancun. I had some pretty strong recommendations telling us to come here (thanks Leon). So here we are. Currently, I am in bed writing this and next to me is Justine, who is feeling very sorry for herself... But, I'll get to that later.
The rest of Mexico City was incredible. So much history and stunning architecture. We went to Templo Mayor (Spanish for Great Temple). This was underground until the early 1900s when it was discovered. I won't give you a history lesson. But basically the Spanish conquerors buried it when they built the new city. And archeologists over the 1900s were discovering new parts of it until a full blown excavation took place in the 70s. Incredible to walk around and through. We continued the walking tour of Mexico City when we were joined by Alphonso (I might start referring to him as Justine's admirer). We visited the most beautiful building I have ever seen, Palacio de Bellas Artes. The inside didn't really match the outside... Still impressive all the same. We then checked out the Museo Nacional de Antropología. Three hours later our brains were full. I still couldn't tell you who was ruling in Mexico when. But it was still exceptionally interesting and full of fun facts.
After our extensive tour concluded, we headed to our accommodation with Justine's family friends to pack and start on our merry way to Tulum. After a short plane ride and a bus ride, we made it! By this stage, we hadn't eaten all day as it was an early start. So we went to have dinner and margaritas. And this, ladies and gents is the reason Justine is feeling a bit sorry for herself. It would appear she can't do two things...
1. Handle her tequila
2. Keep up with a "Youl" (but nice job for trying).
After the third margarita we made friends with a group at the table next to us. We swapped stories about what was good to do in Australia and Tulum. After the fifth margarita we decided to go to a bar down the road and have a dance. After the first tequila shot, I was having a great time being taught how to samba. Justine it appeared was struggling to stand up... After 20 minutes, I decided I should take her home. One of our new pals helped me carry her downstairs and get her in a cab. Salvador, our driver, thought it was hilarious I had to hold her up on the drive to our hostel. I thought it was hilarious when we got to our destination and he held her up while she spewed on her own feet.
Eventually, I got her inside. Okay... I dropped her twice. But one drunk girl carrying an even drunker girl is tough. I just appreciate the gym training I was doing previously. It took the help from a passing American called Steve to lift her in the bed where she stayed for the next 12 hours. All in all. An eventful night!
